Characteristics – features
Potassium plays an important role in many vital processes within the plant. It is essential at all stages of plant growth, from development to production, as it helps to increase yield by:
Increased root growth.
Increasing the efficiency of the enzymatic system.
It plays a role in the processes of photosynthesis and food production.
Transfer of starch and sugars.
Increasing the protein content of the plant.
Building cellulose
Production of starch-rich grains.
Controlling ionic balance and increasing the productivity of the acre.
Plants obtain sulfur from the soil through organic matter and minerals, but additional amounts of sulfur are needed, especially in cases of abundant production. Most sulfur in the soil is bound to organic materials that plants cannot utilize until they are converted into sulfate form by bacteria in a process known as "mineralization."
The importance of sulfur lies in the fact that it is a part of every living cell and is required for the synthesis of amino acids such as cysteine and methionine, as well as proteins. It is also essential for photosynthesis and the reduction of nitrates to convert them into amino acids. Additionally, leguminous plants need sulfur to enhance nitrogen fixation efficiency.
