Potassium activates the process of photosynthesis and consequently the synthesis of carbohydrates (sugars and starch). Therefore, it increases the sugar content in fruits such as strawberries, melons, cantaloupes, watermelons, and other fruits. It also increases the starch content in potato and sweet potato tubers. Additionally, potassium improves the quality of fruits and vegetables as it plays a role in regulating the thickness of cell walls.
Deficiency symptoms appear on the older leaves as a slight yellowing at the edges, which then turns into a dark brown color.
Slow growth and lack of uniformity in the ripening of a single fruit.
The ability to transfer nutrients to the fruits and tubers decreases, and consequently, the storage period is reduced, as is the case with potatoes.
