Characteristics – features

A systemic insecticide that works by inhibiting cholinesterase enzymes, which are enzymes involved in the transmission of nerve impulses. It belongs to the organophosphate pesticide group, and is related to nerve gases. It is among the most toxic insecticides to vertebrates. When dimethoate is sprayed on plant roots, it is transported to the aboveground parts of the plant, where it is toxic to any sucking insects that feed on plant sap.
