Characteristics – features
Sulfur is the essential component of life on Earth, as it is found in all crops and plays an important role in plant metabolism. It is considered necessary for the formation of plant proteins, amino acids, some vitamins, and enzymes.
Sulfur is considered a part of an enzyme required for nitrogen absorption, and its absence can severely hinder the nitrogen metabolism process.
Most of the time, sulfur deficiency symptoms appear late, and often the hidden deficiency without symptoms is much more common than the appearance of acute deficiency symptoms.
Sulfur is preferred in the form of sulfates, and plant roots can only absorb sulfur as sulfate ions (SO42-). Therefore, all the sulfur in the soil must first be mined before it becomes available to plants.
Crops with a short growing period, such as potatoes, onions, and garlic, require large amounts of sulfur in a short time, while plants with a longer growing cycle, such as wheat and beets, have more time to recover sulfur from the soil and are therefore less dependent on external sources.
Sulfur is a strong fungicide for powdery mildew and early or late blight diseases when used as a spray treatment.
For this disease, it is disinfected using disinfection machines or manually, and it is disinfected after spraying with one of the natural chemical pesticides.
Recommendations and usage rates
It is preferable to add it after plowing and before harrowing, leveling, and planning.
